1. Scenario Context & Target Vocabulary

To sound fluid in English, you must master **linking**. When one word ends with a consonant sound and the next begins with a vowel sound, they blend together.

  • Consonant-to-Vowel Linking: Blending words like *think about* to sound like *thin-ka-bout*.
  • Vocal Mechanics: The physical movement of the tongue, lips, and vocal cords to produce sounds.

Coach

“Are you ready to practice consonant-to-vowel linking today?”

Student

Yes, absolutely. Where should we start? I want to sound more fluid.”

Coach

“Let’s start with the sentence: ‘Pick it up’. How would you say it?”

Student

“Usually, I say it separately: ‘Pickitup’.”

Coach

“Try to blend it together. Say it like this: ‘Pi-ki-tup’. Go ahead.”

Student

“Okay… ‘Pi-ki-tup’. Oh wow, that flows so much easier!”
